Position Summary
The District Sales Manager drives market penetration and sales growth for TOTO within an assigned geographic territory. The role develops and supports distribution channels—including wholesalers, showrooms, architects, designers, engineers, and mechanical contractors—while also managing local representative agencies as required. The incumbent builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders in the construction and design industries and promotes TOTO’s product portfolio and brand.
Essential Functions
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend distributors, wholesalers, and manufacturer representatives that can effectively market TOTO products in the territory.
- Train, coach, and provide ongoing support to distribution partners to establish a high‑performing sales network across all business segments.
- Maintain daily contact with distributors, wholesalers, showrooms, and reps; monitor competitive sales trends, pricing strategies, and market conditions.
- Manage the local rep agency (where applicable) and its direct reports, ensuring achievement of sales targets.
- Work with wholesalers and showrooms on job specifications, pricing, showroom displays, and technical field assistance.
- Conduct “Lunch & Learn” sessions and product trainings at showrooms, wholesalers, and mechanical contractor sites.
- Process internal TOTO paperwork in accordance with company policy.
- Communicate effectively with local, regional, and corporate departments; update showroom displays as needed.
- Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales‑and‑profit objectives.
Sales & Business Development
- Generate leads for medium‑ to large‑scale construction projects; pursue them through collaboration with wholesalers, architects, general contractors, mechanical contractors, and other relevant parties.
- Follow up on quotes and proposals to convert them into orders while ensuring high customer satisfaction.
Market Analysis & Strategy
- Assist in developing and executing territory‑specific marketing strategies to increase brand awareness and product recognition.
Customer Support
- Investigate customer complaints regarding product defects or service issues; recommend and implement appropriate resolutions.
- Track complaint resolution to ensure satisfaction for both the customer and TOTO.
Reporting & Documentation
- Keep production schedules, sales trends, and order‑status information current in the CRM and Excel reports.
- Use Salesforce, TOTO Sales, SAP, and Tableau for reporting, tracking, and customer‑relationship management.
- Ensure all documentation complies with ISO‑related policies and standards.
- Report any significant changes in customer financial status, ownership, or market news that could impact the business.
Industry Engagement
- Participate in relevant professional associations and industry groups.
- Attend trade shows, conferences, and other events to network and promote TOTO products.
- Support the TOTO NYC Gallery at key events and, when needed, at regional or national shows.
Showroom Management & Collaboration
- Conduct regular trainings and maintain daily interaction with kitchen and bath showrooms throughout the territory.
- Ensure all showroom displays are current and aligned with brand guidelines.
CRM & KPI Management
- Update Salesforce (or other CRM) daily, weekly, and monthly as required.
- Manage and achieve assigned Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to the duties above.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise the local representative agency (where applicable) and/or junior sales staff on a daily basis, monitoring performance and providing coaching.
- Oversee manufacturer‑representative agencies within the territory, ensuring they meet sales targets.
- Carry out supervisory duties in accordance with TOTO policies and all applicable labor laws.
Required Skills / Abilities

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in the decorative‑plumbing or related industry.
- Proven track record of sales success in a territory‑management role.
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
- In‑depth knowledge of the local building market, including wholesalers, mechanical contractors, architects, and designers.
- Current residence within the assigned territory and at least 4 years of experience working in that local market.
Work Environment & Travel
- Primarily field‑based; the majority of the work week will be spent visiting customers at their locations.
- Occasional office work for reporting and administrative tasks.
- Requires overnight travel within the territory; travel expenses (fuel, tolls, parking, meals, home‑office internet/phone) are reimbursed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 lb occasionally (e.g., product samples, equipment).
- Must be able to stand, walk, and climb ladders or scaffolding for showroom installations and product demonstrations.
- Vision sufficient to read technical drawings, computer screens, and product specifications.
