Totally Kids Specialty Healthcare is a small pediatric sub-acute hospital with 45 patients. We are the only long-term care hospital dedicated entirely to children. Our residents' ages range from newborn to 21 years of age and we are dedicated to enriching the health and quality of life for our kids. We are always striving to meet the medical, developmental, social, psychological, and spiritual needs of our kids. Be part of a team that passionately cares about the ongoing improvement of our residents. We are looking for a Dietary Cook to become a part of our facility's compassionate caregiving team. Dietary Cook is responsible for food preparation for all residents on the campus.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have a minimum of one year of experience in food preparation.
  • Must possess a current BLSC/CPR certification at all times.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, written, oral, and interpersonal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Completion of ServSafe Certification.

Position Description

This position provides for the food preparation served to all residents and staff on the campus.

Reporting Relationship

Under the direct supervision of the Dietary Supervisor.

Dietary Cook Job Duties

  • Prepare all food according to the menu in a safe, sanitary manner.
  • Prepare foods/meals to be ready and at appropriate temperatures at designated times.
  • Properly wash and store all dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment.
  • Follow departmental procedures including sanitation, safety, and cleaning schedules.
  • Maintaining regulatory compliance and adhering to facility policies and procedures.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of one year experience in food preparation.
  • Must possess a current BLSC/CPR certification at all times.
  • ServSafe Food Handlers Certification.
  • High school diploma.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to crouch /stoop as required.
  • Lifting Requirements: Must be capable of lifting or carrying objects that weigh up to 45 pounds.
  • Must be able to discern colors.
  • Physical skills necessary to operate all equipment: must be able to stand, reach in all directions, lift and carry objects. Must have fine motor skills.
  • Must have 20/20 vision (correction devices allowed) and be able to appropriately read patient information, posted materials and other written information.
  • Must hear (correctional devices allowed) and comprehend well enough to give and receive information for appropriate completion of duties.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and listen in English with a skill level essential for communication with all facility personnel.
  • Must be able to taste and smell food for quality and palatability.
  • Must have normal physical stamina.
  • Must be able to pull or push 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend and twist.
  • Must have full use of both hands.
  • Must be able to walk intermittently, six to ten hours per shift.

Psychological Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to work and function with chronically ill Residents / Clients and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain an appropriate level of emotional control with all patient groups; make appropriate safe decisions in critical situations.
  • Have the ability to separate personal life from work situation and requirements.
  • Have the ability to function as a team member, possibly requiring leadership abilities.
  • Have the ability to maintain an appropriate attitude; trustworthy, friendly, cooperative, and supportive of good customer satisfaction.

Additional Requirements

  • Dietary personnel will be required to attend all inservices as required by Sun Valley Specialty Healthcare policy.
  • Should the Cook need any time off for any specific reason (personal or otherwise), it shall be requested with a minimum of seven days’ notice. Emergencies will be dealt with as according to Sun Valley Specialty Healthcare policy.
  • At all times, Dietary personnel will perform all duties in strict accordance with the policies and procedures as outlined in the facility’s Safety and Health program.
