Position Overview:
The General Foreman – Industrial Construction plays a key leadership role in overseeing field operations to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Reporting directly to the Project Superintendent, the General Foreman coordinates the work of multiple crews, manages resources, and ensures that safety protocols are rigorously followed. This role is integral to Total-Western’s commitment to operational excellence, making a direct impact on project success and client satisfaction. The General Foreman serves as the main point of contact for field operations, promoting teamwork, communication, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Team Management: Oversee, direct, and support multiple field crews, ensuring that tasks are carried out efficiently, safely, and in alignment with project goals.
- Project Execution and Oversight: Coordinate daily operations, ensuring that work aligns with project specifications, schedules, and client expectations while meeting Total-Western’s safety and quality standards.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce and model a safety-first culture by implementing and adhering to all company and regulatory safety procedures, conducting regular safety briefings, and participating in job hazard analyses.
- Resource Allocation and Management: Efficiently manage labor, equipment, and materials to maintain productivity and control costs, working with project management to address any resource needs or constraints.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct regular inspections of work in progress, identifying potential issues, ensuring quality standards are met, and coordinating with quality control staff as needed.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate daily logs, production reports, and incident reports, ensuring transparent and timely communication with project managers and other stakeholders.
- Training and Mentorship: Provide hands-on guidance and training to crew members, promoting skill development and fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications in construction or a related field are preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of industrial construction practices, safety protocols, and relevant codes and standards, including ASME and OSHA requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to motivate teams and manage complex field operations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications.
- Proficiency in construction management software and basic computer skills (MS Office Suite).
Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience in Total-Western’s core industries, such as oil and gas, aerospace, or renewable energy.
- Knowledge of specialized industrial construction techniques and tools, particularly related to ASME code welding or electrical and instrumentation services.
- Certification in OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety or similar.
Work Environment:
- Field-based role with regular travel to project sites across the Western U.S.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions and industrial environments, with occasional work in challenging weather conditions.
- Adherence to strict safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times.
Reporting Structure:
The General Foreman – Industrial Construction reports to the Project Superintendent. This role works closely with project management, quality control, and safety personnel to achieve project objectives.
