The Safety Instructor / Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality occupational
safety, health, emergency response, and compliance training programs to internal Total
Safety employees and to industrial, construction, energy, and manufacturing clients. The
instructor ensures participants receive engaging, hands-on instruction that meets
regulatory requirements and industry best practices, assists in the design of instructional
materials, and always represents Total Safety in a professional manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Training Delivery
• Conduct classroom, practical, and field-based safety training courses.
• Delivery of courses includes:
◦ OSHA 10-Hour and 30-Hour Training
◦ First Aid, CPR, and AED
◦ Fall Protection
◦ Confined Space Entry
◦ Respiratory Protection
◦ Gas Detection and Equipment Troubleshooting
◦ Fire Watch and Fire Extinguisher Training
◦ HAZWOPER Awareness
◦ Incident Command System (ICS)
◦ Emergency Response and Industrial Safety Programs
• Facilitate training programs, including new hire, peer, and needs-specific training;
assist in the design of instructional materials.
• Facilitate hands-on skills evaluations and competency assessments.
• Maintain participant engagement through interactive, adult-learning techniques.
• Work as a team member under the direction of the Training Manager, Training
Coordinator, and more experienced trainers to deliver value-added learning
solutions spanning the entire organization.
Internal and External Training Coordination
• Conduct internal training activities and coordinate training and evaluations of Total
Safety employees.
• Conduct external training activities and coordinate training and evaluations of
customer employees.
• Maintain close communication with training management and respond to requests
for support.
Course Administration
• Prepare training materials, presentations, and equipment before classes.
• Maintain accurate attendance records, testing documentation, and training reports;
complete training documentation as proof of training.
• Ensure all training records are completed and submitted in accordance with
company procedures.
• Assist in updating course content to comply with current regulations and industry
standards.
Safety and Compliance
• Ensure all training activities comply with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and company
requirements.
• Promote a positive safety culture and professional work environment.
• Conduct training in accordance with Total Safety policies and procedures.
Client Relations
• Serve as a professional representative of Total Safety during all client interactions.
• Respond to participant questions and provide technical guidance.
• Support business development efforts by identifying additional training
opportunities with clients.
Equipment Management
• Inspect and maintain training equipment, manikins, rescue gear, fall protection
equipment, gas detection instruments, and classroom resources.
• Report damaged or missing equipment to management.
Qualifications
Required
• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 5 years of industrial safety, emergency response, EMS, firefighting,
construction safety, or related experience.
• Minimum of one (1) year of training experience, or an equivalent education and
experience combination.
• Knowledge of subject matter, equipment, and applicable standards/policies
necessary to deliver quality training services.
• Strong presentation and public speaking skills; clear and effective oral and written
communication.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and training
technology.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to tight project turnaround times.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to travel to client locations as needed.
Preferred
• Associate's or bachelor’s degree in safety, Emergency Management, Occupational
Health, EMS, Fire Science, or related field from an accredited college or university.
• Previous instructor experience in adult education or workforce development.
• Experience in industrial, petrochemical, manufacturing, construction, or energy
sectors.
Preferred Certifications
• OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer (Construction and/or General Industry)
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
• Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
• Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT)
• First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic
• Fire Service Instructor Certification
• Technical Rescue Instructor Certification (rope rescue, confined space rescue,
and/or high-angle rescue)
• HAZWOPER Instructor Certification

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk;
and stoop, kneel, or crouch. Ability to demonstrate practical skills including CPR, rescue
techniques, ladder safety, and fall protection equipment use. Uses hands to finger, handle,
or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally
required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color
vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
May be infrequently exposed to possible operations hazards or working in or visiting
operational site, including dust, fumes, toxic and caustic chemicals, rotating machinery,
high pressure, hot or cold work temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical
hazards.
Complexity of Duties and Decisions: Duties involve the use of several procedures or
processes and generally have predetermined standards. Use some judgment to arrange
job details in order to achieve pre-determined objectives. Requires some ability to
Authority: Works under general supervision: Broad instructions covering generally what
is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines and priorities are
given. Additional, specific instructions are given for new, difficult, or unusual
assignments. No direct reports but serves as a resource to others. May assist with training
less experienced staff.
