About the Role
Total Plastic Solutions is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Engineering team in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Project Engineer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing injection molding projects from initial kickoff through production launch. This position will work closely with Tooling, Quality, Production, Supply Chain, customers, and other internal teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in alignment with customer requirements, quality standards, and business objectives.
The Project Engineer will also play an important role in protecting project profitability by monitoring labor, material, tooling, and overhead costs and identifying opportunities for corrective action and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate assigned projects from kickoff through production readiness.
- Define project scope, timelines, deliverables, and key milestones.
- Coordinate new product launches, transfers, and engineering changes.
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal teams and customers.
- Provide project updates, manage expectations, and escalate risks when necessary.
- Monitor project performance against budget and schedule.
- Track labor, material, tooling, and overhead costs to help achieve or exceed quoted gross margin targets.
- Identify cost variances and drive corrective actions to protect project profitability.
- Support mold design reviews, sampling activities, FAI, PPAP, and process validation.
- Help ensure molds, tools, and processes meet quality and cycle-time requirements.
- Manage engineering changes, cost impacts, and documentation updates while minimizing disruption to production.
- Provide technical support and collaborate with cross-functional team members.
- Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, reduce scrap, optimize labor, and lower overall costs.
- Maintain accurate project records, including timelines, cost tracking, lessons learned, and technical documentation.
- Ensure projects align with applicable safety standards, quality systems, customer requirements, and regulatory requirements.
- Follow and apply applicable ISO 13485 and AS9100 requirements.
- Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
Experience
- 2–4 years of experience in project engineering, project management, or a related role.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of engineering design software, such as SolidWorks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with engineering codes, standards, and quality assurance practices.
