HVAC Service & Installation Technician
The HVAC Service & Installation Technician is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and full system installations on an as-needed, part-time basis for residential and light commercial customers. The technician will utilize ServiceTrade and associated applications for documentation, job tracking, customer notes, equipment information, and time reporting. This position also incorporates sales responsibilities, including recommending system replacements, accessories, maintenance agreements, and enhancements. The technician must communicate professionally with customers, field personnel, office staff, vendors, and management while ensuring high-quality workmanship, safety compliance, and efficient job completion.
Position Specific Responsibilities
· Perform service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC systems including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ventilation equipment, and controls.
· Complete full system installations including ductwork modifications, equipment placement, line sets, electrical connections, condensate management, and start-up procedures.
· Use ServiceTrade to document work performed, upload job photos, record equipment and parts used, update task statuses, and manage customer notes.
· Generate sales opportunities for equipment replacements, IAQ products, system enhancements, and maintenance agreements.
· Conduct diagnostic evaluations to determine repair needs and communicate findings and recommendations to customers.
· Maintain accurate job records, installation documentation, time logs, and service details using company software.
· Follow all manufacturer guidelines, company safety procedures, and applicable codes.
· Communicate regularly with office staff, project managers, and field teams regarding job status and scheduling needs.
· Maintain tools, service vehicles, and inventory to company standards.
· Provide emergency service as assigned through the on-call rotation.
· Uphold professional appearance, punctuality, communication, and customer service standards.

2. EXPERIENCE:
· 2–4 years of HVAC service and/or installation experience.
· Stable work history with strong attendance and performance record.
· Experience using ServiceTrade or willingness to learn field service management software.
3. JOB SKILLS AND EDUCATION:
· High school diploma required; technical training or HVAC certification preferred.
· EPA 608 Certification required (Universal preferred).
· Ability to interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
· Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical issues to customers.
· Ability to identify sales opportunities and communicate upgrade recommendations.
· Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and ventilation principles within HVAC systems.
· Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or emergency situations.
· Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
· Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, attics, basements, and mechanical rooms.
· Ability to navigate uneven surfaces, low lighting, and typical jobsite hazards.
· Ability to work required schedule including evenings, weekends, overtime, and on-call rotations.
