Role Description The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will support licensed occupational therapists in delivering patient-centered rehabilitative care in an outpatient setting. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing treatment plans, guiding patients through therapeutic activities, documenting progress, and assisting with home exercise and self-care programs. The COTA will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to adjust interventions, promote safety, and optimize functional outcomes for patients with a variety of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. This is a part-time, on-site role based in Berkeley Heights, NJ, requiring reliable attendance and adherence to clinical and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation, supporting treatment implementation under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist.
- Strong Patient Care skills, including compassionate communication, safety awareness, and the ability to assist individuals with diverse functional needs.
- Experience contributing to Program Development and treatment planning, including suggesting appropriate therapeutic activities and interventions.
- Ability to support Home Care and home exercise programs by educating patients and caregivers on safe and effective carryover of therapy at home.
- Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) and active New Jersey state license (or eligibility for licensure).
- Knowledge of outpatient rehabilitation practices, documentation standards, and basic computer/EHR skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, manage time effectively, and adapt to a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Prior experience in pain management, physical medicine, or orthopedic settings is preferred but not required.
