Total Environmental Concepts, Inc., one of the top environmental companies in Maryland, DC and Virginia, has a current opening for a Junior Estimator. This position will play a vital role in the continued growth and operation of the company and handle a multitude of challenging and critical tasks.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing estimating duties on a professional level and works closely with the TEC’s Estimating Manager. The Junior Estimator will work with the Estimating team to prepare detailed construction cost estimates and analyze documents to develop accurate and detailed project estimates using specific procedures, as well as other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Development of construction cost estimates over various phases of a project in its life cycle.
  • Ability to read blue prints and do take offs.
  • Work with Estimating team to determine scope of project for bidding and estimating purposes.
  • Provide estimating services which include conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction level estimates.
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of bid documents, production, subcontractor and vendor pricing and project turnover to Project Manager.
  • Assist with the review of bid/scope requirements and make sure response addresses each item identified as well as any other situation that is likely to occur for that project.
  • Attend site walk through’s and any pre-bid meetings required for proposals that TEC wants to pursue.
  • Prepare accurate materials pricing.
  • Assist with developing RFIs and clarifications and ensure adequate staffing is budgeted and subcontractor coverage.
  • Review responses and pricing from suppliers and subcontractors to verify that they have properly addressed the tasks assigned to them or materials needed.
  • Maintain open and professional communications as well as a good working relationship with project manager, management team, clients and potential clients.
  • Monitor bid board sites and review applicable opportunities.
  • Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience is required.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in construction cost estimating and field work experience on construction projects.
  • Experience in petroleum system or related civil construction is highly desirable.
  • High level of comfort and experience using Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.).
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and terminology.
  • Ability to develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all projects and make sure items are updated in Hubspot and saved within our cloud infrastructure.
  • Ability to stay organized and use time efficiently. This position will be working on multiple estimates at the same time and needs to be able to work both in a team setting and independently.
  • Ability to meet both internal and external deadlines.
  • Ability to assist in presenting analysis of project cost estimates, expenditures and forecasts to managers in order to enable/enhance project/program decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and presentation skills.

Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment with some travel to job sites to complete bid/proposal work onsite in meetings. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other office machines or equipment.

Physical Demands

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an office employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee will occasionally be required to travel to potential job sites and must be able to sit, stand and carry laptop and documents for meetings.

Position Type/Days & Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday thru Friday generally from 9am to 5pm. Hours may fluctuate depending on bid/proposal meetings and deadlines

Experience:

  • construction cost estimating: 2 years (Required)
  • estimating petroleum system installations, upgrades, closure: 1 year (Preferred)
