Project Manager - Civil Construction
Job Duties:
- Lead and manage project teams (Engineers, Superintendents, Foremen), including performance management, development, and daily execution
- Oversee all phases of construction projects, ensuring delivery on schedule, budget, quality, and safety
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders; manage relationships and resolve issues professionally
- Plan, coordinate, and direct field operations in collaboration with site leadership
- Manage subcontractors and vendors, including scheduling, performance, coordination, and payments
- Develop and manage project budgets, billing, and cash flow; track costs and maintain financial alignment
- Review and administer project documentation, including purchase orders, subcontracts, RFIs, submittals, and change orders
- Coordinate procurement of materials and assist in subcontractor selection
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, and applicable federal, state, and local laws (MD/DC/VA)
- Utilize project management systems (e.g., Procore, Primavera) to track performance, schedules, and reporting
- Represent the company in meetings with clients, engineers, and regulatory agencies
Educational / Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four‑year college or an equivalent foreign degree.
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in Project Management, Assistant Project Management, or Field Engineering on multi-million-dollar construction projects.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to travel to project sites two to three times per week throughout Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia; reliable transportation required.
- Strong financial acumen, including cost control, billing, cash flow management, forecasting, and cost-to-complete analysis.
- Solid technical knowledge of civil construction means and methods, project specifications, and applicable safety standards; ability to read plans, interpret contract documents, and prepare project reports.
- Proficiency in project controls and performance tracking tools, with the ability to manage schedules, budgets, production, and field reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, Procore, Primavera, HeavyJob, Foundation, or similar construction management and accounting systems.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with experience coaching, developing, and holding project teams accountable for performance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings, negotiate effectively, and resolve issues professionally.
- Highly organized and self-directed, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, make sound decisions, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in outdoor construction environments and tolerate typical job site conditions, including varying weather and active field operations.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Must be able to pass a federal background check.
Work Schedule: Full-time. Able to work a non-standard work week.
