We are seeking a skilled UX/UI Designer to lead the visual and user experience design for a public-sector website redesign project. This position is ideal for a designer who understands the balance between aesthetic design, usability, and accessibility.
Role Overview
The UX/UI Designer will collaborate with the project manager, developers, and accessibility specialists to create a cohesive design system and user experience strategy. You will design mockups, establish visual standards, and ensure the interface is intuitive and compliant with accessibility guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Design a modern, accessible website layout and navigation system.
- Develop wireframes, mockups, and final UI components for web and mobile.
- Establish and maintain a design system and visual style guide.
- Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 accessibility standards.
- Collaborate with developers to translate design into a fully functional, responsive site.
- Conduct usability reviews and refine the user journey based on feedback.
- Provide brand-consistent visual assets and guidance for future updates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interactive Media, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in UX/UI design for websites or applications.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating accessible, user-centered design work.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and responsive frameworks is preferred (for collaboration with developers).
- Experience working on public-sector, nonprofit, or community-facing websites is a plus.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Contract Details
- Duration: Approximately 4–6 months.
- Hours: Flexible, averaging 20–30 hours per week depending on project phase.
- Work Environment: Fully remote with scheduled virtual meetings.
- Pay: $75 per hour (1099 independent contractor).
