We are seeking a detail-oriented Content Strategist / Information Architect to organize and refine the content for a public-sector website redesign. This role requires strong writing, content planning, and information architecture skills to help create a clear, accessible, and user-friendly experience.
Role Overview
The Content Strategist / Information Architect will collaborate with the project manager, designer, and developer to evaluate existing website content, plan site structure, and rewrite materials in plain language. You will map information flows, standardize terminology, and develop templates for easy future updates.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct content inventory and develop a content migration plan.
- Rewrite and structure content for clarity, consistency, and accessibility.
- Create and maintain an information architecture (map, hierarchy, navigation labels).
- Apply plain-language and Section 508/WCAG principles to all web copy.
- Coordinate metadata, document organization, and naming conventions.
- Support content upload and QA during development and launch.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure accuracy and readability across all sections.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Information Design, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in content strategy, information architecture, or technical writing for web projects.
- Proven ability to simplify complex content for diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and written communication skills.
- Experience with content management systems (WordPress or Drupal preferred).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
Contract Details
- Duration: Approximately 4–6 months.
- Hours: Flexible, averaging 10–20 hours per week.
- Work Environment: Fully remote with scheduled virtual team meetings.
- Pay: $50 per hour (1099 independent contractor).
