Job Overview
TAG is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Control Systems Technician (Contractor) to join our dynamic field team. In this role, you will support the installation and commissioning of complex automation and control systems by pulling cabling, terminating wires according to control prints, and assisting engineers with system start-up and testing.
This is a 1099 contract position. TAG's job sites are located across the United States, and contractors have the flexibility to accept or decline projects as they become available. Typical project durations range from 2–4 weeks. TAG provides per diem, covers all travel and accommodations, and assigns an onsite foreman to guide daily work and coordination.

Key Responsibilities
- Install, calibrate, and maintain control systems, including PLCs, sensors, vision inspection systems, and DCS components.
- Pull and terminate wiring per electrical control prints and schematics.
- Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues on automated equipment using wiring diagrams, schematics, and precision tools (e.g., ohmmeters).
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on CNC machinery, low-voltage controls, and other automation systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and AutoCAD documentation to identify and resolve faults.
- Calibrate sensors and instrumentation to ensure accurate system performance.
- Collaborate with engineering teams during system commissioning and hardware/software integration.
- Support field operations by providing input on system improvements and troubleshooting complex automation issues.
- Maintain detailed records of wiring, calibration, and maintenance activities.
- Follow all TAG and site-specific safety protocols.
Requirements
- Proven experience working with industrial electrical systems, including low- and high-voltage controls.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics, mechanical systems, and industrial maintenance practices.
- Hands-on experience with PLCs, sensors, CNC equipment, and control calibration.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and AutoCAD files.
- Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and manufacturing automation environments.
- Proficiency in using precision test instruments such as ohmmeters and multimeters.
- Solid understanding of electrical safety standards and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills in both field and remote environments.
- Prior military or industrial electrician experience is highly preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 75% of the time and work independently in field settings.
