As a Counter Salesperson, you’ll be a key point of contact for our trade customers, providing knowledgeable, responsive service in a fast-paced plumbing and HVAC wholesale environment. You’ll help customers identify the right products, process orders, solve problems, and build relationships that drive repeat business.
Whether assisting a customer at the counter, over the phone, or by email, you’ll combine product knowledge, customer service, and sales to deliver a great experience.
What You'll Do:
- Assist customers at the counter, by phone, and via email with product selection, technical questions, pricing, availability, and order status.
- Recommend products and solutions based on customer needs and application.
- Accurately enter and process sales orders, ensuring correct products, quantities, pricing, and delivery instructions.
- Follow up on orders and proactively resolve customer issues.
- Build strong relationships with customers to support repeat business and sales growth.
- Develop and maintain strong knowledge of Torrco's plumbing and HVAC product lines.
- Partner with other sales team members to support customer accounts and identify sales opportunities.
- Coordinate with Purchasing, Shipping, Credit, and Billing to ensure a smooth customer experience.
- Assist with pulling and staging customer orders for pickup or delivery when needed.
Qualifications:
- 1–3 years of sales, customer service, or related experience preferred. Plumbing, HVAC, building materials, or wholesale distribution experience is a plus.
- Plumbing and HVAC product knowledge is a plus, but a willingness and ability to learn is essential.
- Strong customer service, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple customer needs at once.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and basic math skills.
- Comfortable using computer-based order-entry/POS systems and Microsoft Office; Eclipse/Eterm experience is a plus.
- Dependable, professional, and team-oriented with the ability to think on your feet.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant vocational or technical training is a plus.
Physical Demands:
This position regularly requires standing, reaching, bending, kneeling, and handling products and materials. Employees must be able to regularly lift up to 25 lbs., frequently lift up to 50-75 lbs., and occasionally move heavier materials using appropriate equipment or assistance.
Schedule:
Trade branch hours are generally Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but may vary by location. Your scheduled hours will fall within the branch's hours of operation.
Compensation structure is an hourly wage paid weekly monthly commission based on your sales.
