DEAN OF STUDENTS
ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS
1. Has direct responsibility to the school principal or designee for performance of delegated functions.
2. Works through building administrator and with appropriate District Office administrator to
implement District and school site disciplinary policies. The Dean of Students promotes good
attendance rates and ensures safety and the prevention of campus violence.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Implementation and enforcement of Student Discipline Policy.
2. Handle student disciplinary referrals from classroom or campus.
3. Confer with parents on matters of student behavior and the implementation of effective programs
related to student discipline and attendance.
4. May contact and coordinate with social service agencies, child protective services, private counseling
centers and others regarding preventive or remedial services for students.
5. Provide information about community resources to students with special needs or problems.
6. Use data to identify at risk students for behavior and academic monitoring.
7. Attend professional development in relation to at-risk students and student achievement.
8. Supervision of students before, during and after school, including lunch periods.
9. Assist in the coordination of school detention, in-school suspension and Saturday School when
appropriate.
10. Assist students in making the transition from one school level to another and from one program to
another.
11. Monitor student progress.
12. Assist students in resolving individual problems and conflicts with other students or adults.
13. Consult with members of the administrative and teaching staff regarding student discipline and or
attendance issues to identify intervention strategies.
14. Attend Student Study Team meetings and other related meetings as needed.
