Description
Under general supervision from the Clinical Informatics Director, the Clinical Informatics Specialist is responsible for the planning, testing, training, adoption, use, and ongoing evolution of the clinical information systems at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. The Clinical Informatics Specialist serves as a liaison between practicing clinicians and Information Technology (IT) staff to improve the electronic medical record (EMR) and related clinical systems. The Clinical Informatics Specialist strives to further their understanding of both clinical and technical operational processes and incorporates this knowledge to execute best practices in both the clinical and IT disciplines.

Provides comprehensive support of the EMR and other clinical information systemsProvides end-user support to clinicians to ensure appropriate implementation and functionality of clinical information systemsPromotes and maintains standardization of patient data across disciplinesCollaborates with the Clinical Education Department for clinical staff and student education regarding clinical information systemsGuides the development and deployment of ongoing training and communicationParticipates in Clinical Informatics workgroups to facilitate, develop, evaluate and revise clinical documentation processes and toolsPartners with organizational leadership to monitor and audit clinical documentation, identifying action steps to support appropriate clinician follow-upTriages system issues and involves appropriate staff and departments on problem resolutionCollaborates with other members of the Clinical Informatics Department as related to the planning and coordination of specific projects as assignedRepresents the Clinical Informatics Department at various organizational committeesMaintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, and private laws and regulation in relation to clinical documentation and electronic medical records
