    Under the direction of the medical center's Engineering Supervisor of Construction, the Construction Mechanic I is responsible for the implementation of the medical center's in-house construction projects. With expertise is 3 major construction trades, and familiarity with all phases of construction, is directly involved with the projects from demolition to the installation of finishes.

    Core Competencies

    • Works with the Construction Supervisor on new construction projects to insure that proposed new additions or changes meet medical center standards.
    • Ensures all newequipment purchases fit into the medical center system or is modified to do so by being involved with the capital purchase process.
    • Demonstrates familiarity with plumbing, electrical, and air conditioning trades to ensure that the installa­tion process is properly following the guidelines as laid out by the Construction Supervisor, and Director of Engineering.
    • Demonstrates familiarity with tools, materials, codes, industry practices, safety procedures, and installation methods to properly install wall and ceiling framing, drywall installation, mechanical bracing and support systems, and door fr­ame installation to Medical Center standards, and governing inspection bodies acceptance.
    • Produces and finishes concrete utilizing knowledge of tools, materials, codes, industry practices, safety procedures, and installation methods. Installs formwork, inserts, grades, slopes, pours, and finishes slabs, walkways, equipment pads, interior floors, and other concrete structures.
    • Installs t-bar ceiling framing, tile, accesso­ries, and tile. Maintains familiarity with glue on tile and the associated installation processes to provide a finished product to standards.
    • Demonstrates familiarity and experience with tools, materials, codes, industry practices, safety procedures, and installation methods to properly produce a quality finished product to medical center standards.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in installation and knowledgeable of different materials involved with taping and plastering.
    • Preforms both production taping and also patching walls to match existing wall textures.
    • Prepares floors for installation of finished materials, and oversees the installation process by others to standards.
    • Produces finished wall and floor ceramic tile.
    • Uses materials, maintains records, and keeps track of work conditions in such a way that accurate and necessary inventory levels of parts, materials, and tools are always met.
    • Uses knowledge of construction techniques to properly disassemble and remove those areas shown for demolition on the plans.
    • Coordinates with the medical center when turning off circuit breakers, shutting off water, HVAC, or other services.
    • Saves from damage and stores all items in the construction area that could be used again by the medical center.
    • Lays out the work to be done from plans, specifications, and directions. Uses basic construction skills to properly locate, mark, and identify structures, fixtures, or equipment to be removed or installed.
    • Informs the Construction Supervisor immediately of any deviations from the norm.
    • Attends meetings as required.
    • Fills in as a Maintenance Mechanic I with all the skills and duties necessary for that position, as directed by the Construction Supervisor or the Director of Engineering.
    • Ensures availability for emergency call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.
    • Maintains profession­al growth and develop­ment to keep abreast of the field.
    • Participates on medical center committees as requested, and may represent department at various meetings as directed.
    • Works during emergency situations by direction of the Construction Supervisor or the Director of Engineering anywhere as needed in the Medical Center.

    Experience

    Additional Information
    Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local building and safety codes. Two years experience in construction and two years experience in Hospital environment. Proficient in three major trades, with experience and knowledge in all others. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sectional drawings, technical specification and manufactures equipment bulletins. Ability to inspect, test, repair and replace electrical circuits, equipment and appliances. Knowledge of management and organization principles and practices. Some experience with information technologies, and telephone systems.

    Compensation Range 

    $25.13 - $37.96 / Hour 

    Salary : $25 - $38
