Responsibilities
- Assist orthodontists and dental practitioners during procedures such as bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings using dental instruments and equipment.
- Prepare treatment areas by sterilizing dental tools, processing instruments according to infection control protocols, and setting up necessary supplies for procedures.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and 3D scans, ensuring proper positioning and adherence to safety standards.
- Manage patient records within EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, documenting medical history, vital signs, and treatment notes accurately.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and the use of orthodontic appliances while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Ensure clinical confidentiality policies are followed when handling medical documentation and patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support pediatric dentistry procedures by understanding child-specific needs and applying age-appropriate communication techniques.
- Maintain dental sterilization procedures to uphold infection prevention standards across all clinical areas.
- Collaborate with team members in four-handed dentistry practices to optimize workflow efficiency during complex procedures such as oral surgery or endodontics.
- Monitor dental equipment functionality, including digital X-ray machines, intraoral scanners, and other advanced tools like the 3D scanner for precise diagnostics.
- Uphold strict infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to prevent healthcare-associated infections within the clinic environment.
Experience
- Proven experience working in a busy dental clinic environment with a focus on orthodontics or general dentistry.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft for managing medical records and scheduling appointments.
- Hands-on experience with dental X-ray procedures, including digital imaging and 3D scanning technology.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, dental instruments, sterilization procedures, and infection control practices.
- Experience supporting pediatric dentistry cases and understanding of pediatric-specific protocols is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during various treatments like oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, or other specialty procedures.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention standards and medical documentation requirements under HIPAA guidelines.
- Certification or training in dental assisting is preferred; however, relevant clinic experience demonstrating proficiency in clinical confidentiality policies is essential.
