GIS Technician

Under the general supervision of Rural Addressing, the GIS Field Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks involving digital mapping and geographic information system (GIS) data entry, plus develop, administer, analyze and implement the Geographic Information Parcel Mapping System for the Assessor. Will also work with E911 to maintain current and correct rural addressing network. Will work with Planning and Zoning to assign new addresses.

Responsibilities:

· Collects and delivers field and geospatial information in digital and/or hard copy format to support the operation and utilization of the County’s parcel level Geographic Information System (GIS) and E-911 Database.

• Installs signage at predetermined locations throughout the county.
• Measures roads; determines addresses; verifies and enters collected data into various databases.
• Verifies addresses and utilizes electronic distance measuring devices, GPS devices to collect various physical features such as roads, driveways, structures, fire hydrants and other items required to update the Enhanced-911 (E-911) database or other databases as needed.
• Assists the public and other County staff with GIS query and data needs, permit applications and address verifications; prepares digital and/or hard copy product
• Provides exemplary customer service by responding promptly to requests in person, telephonically or electronically.
• Assists property owners in understanding local ordinance or state statutes and providing clear and concise details.
• Other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

• Interact with state and local agencies throughout the state to present requested information.
• Must have driver license and able to pass mandatory defensive driving class

Physical Function:

• Must be able to lift, move and place equipment and materials in the field.

Working Conditions:

• Outdoors in the field, including light inclement weather.
• In office

Preferred Knowledge:

• Understanding plats, understanding road range system in rural areas, and working knowledge of Torrance County.

Preferred Experience:

• · Must have a High School Diploma or GED
• Must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license, must be insured for liability purposes
• GIS, related work, or study experience
• Specific talents or certifications applicable to performance of duties
