About the Role
New Hope Services is seeking a Staff Accountant to support daily accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close activities, and nonprofit accounting functions.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for early-career accounting professionals to gain hands-on experience in general ledger accounting, fund accounting, financial reporting, grant tracking, and audit support within a supportive and collaborative nonprofit environment.
The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Controller and Senior Staff Accountant while developing a strong foundation in nonprofit finance and accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and post journal entries with supporting documentation.
- Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve account variances.
- Support monthly and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
Accounts & Transaction Support
- Assist with tracking and reviewing accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
- Ensure accurate coding of financial transactions.
- Support compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Maintain organized accounting documentation.
Grant & Fund Accounting Support
- Assist with grant tracking and restricted fund monitoring.
- Support preparation of grant expenditure reports.
- Maintain documentation related to grant-funded programs.
- Assist with compliance and reporting requirements.
Audit & Compliance Support
- Prepare documentation for internal and external audits.
- Support financial reporting requirements.
- Assist with maintaining accounting controls and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
Team Collaboration & Process Improvement
- Work closely with finance team members on accounting activities.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Support continuous learning and professional development.
- Contribute to maintaining effective internal controls.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of accounting experience, including internships or practicum experience.
- Basic understanding of GAAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Experience or coursework in nonprofit accounting.
- Knowledge of fund accounting principles.
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, MIP, Blackbaud, or similar systems.
- Experience supporting financial reporting and reconciliations.
