Torco Services is seeking a detail-oriented, safety-focused Electrical Testing Technician to join our field operations team. This position is responsible for performing electrical, dielectric, structural, and safety inspections on insulated tools, aerial devices, and utility equipment in compliance with ANSI, ASTM, DOT, and manufacturer standards.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, motivated, and comfortable working independently in the field while operating high-voltage test equipment. This role requires weekly overnight travel in fully equipped company vans, with technicians home on weekends. All training is provided.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical, Dielectric & Safety Testing
- Perform electrical, dielectric, structural, and safety inspections on:
- Hand-held insulating live-line tools
- Temporary grounding jumpers and insulated by-pass jumpers
- Insulating blankets and fiberglass bucket liners
- Insulated aerial devices, digger derricks, aerial lifts, and insulated protective equipment
- Set up and operate high-voltage test equipment
- Monitor leakage current, flashover, arcing, and other failure indicators
- Determine and document pass/fail results per applicable standards
Inspection, Cleaning & Preparation
- Clean and prepare fiberglass, rubber, and insulated components using approved methods
- Conduct thorough visual inspections
- Identify unsafe conditions including moisture, contamination, debris, damage, or hydraulic leaks
Safety & Worksite Control
- Establish and maintain barricaded test areas using cones, rope, and/or signage
- Ensure proper grounding of vehicles and test equipment
- Follow all PPE, safety, and environmental requirements
- Maintain situational awareness of weather and environmental conditions that may impact testing
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete full, accurate, and honest inspection reports
- Record test results, photos, and equipment information using electronic documentation systems
- Apply required test stickers, tags, and labels
- Communicate test failures, damage, or out-of-service conditions to customers and management before leaving the job site
Equipment Care & Calibration
- Verify calibration status and perform baseline checks on test equipment
- Identify, tag, and report defective or out-of-tolerance equipment
- Participate in annual calibration and inspection programs
Team & Customer Engagement
- Work closely with the management team to communicate inspection findings
- Professionally represent Torco Services while maintaining customer trust
- Promote high standards of safety, cleanliness, organization, and workmanship
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Mechanical aptitude
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to follow technical procedures and written standards
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Willingness to travel overnight at times throughout the week
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in electrical testing, utilities, or industrial maintenance
- Familiarity with ANSI, ASTM, or DOT standards
- Electrical or mechanical background
- Experience using mobile or electronic reporting systems
Physical & Work Environment
- Ability to lift and handle testing equipment and materials
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to climb on and around trucks, aerial devices, and equipment
- Field-based role requiring regional travel and weekly overnight stays
