What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst position at Torch Clean Energy?
About Torch Clean Energy
Torch Clean Energy is a leading renewable energy developer focused on accelerating the transition to a clean energy future. We specialize in the development, financing, construction, and operation of utility-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects across the United States. At Torch, we believe our mission-driven culture, strong relationships, and nimble execution are key to our success. In January of 2025, Torch entered into a joint venture partnership with Morgan Stanley Infrastructure partners to develop, construct, and operate our existing pipeline of projects and to acquire additional assets prior to the start of construction.
About the Role
Torch Clean Energy is a growing utility-scale solar and energy storage developer with an active and expanding project pipeline. We are looking for a Financial Analyst to join our team in Boulder and work directly with our Project Finance and M&A functions. Success in this role will look like, within your first 6 months, you are independently managing at least one project model end to end. You understand the Torch pipeline, know how to run a model from scratch, have participated in at least one diligence process, and can anticipate what information is needed and how to ask for it. The team trusts you to own your work. This is an entry-level role built for someone who is technically sharp, intellectually curious, and genuinely excited about the energy transition. You will be embedded with a senior leader from day one, with a clear runway to take on greater ownership as you grow.
In This Role You Will
- Build, run, and maintain project finance models under the direction of the Director of Finance, with the expectation of taking on increasing model ownership over time
- Support the full deal lifecycle, including financial analysis and diligence support for M&A transactions
- Manage deal flow communications, including NDA tracking and execution and coordination of information requests during due diligence
- Collaborate cross-functionally with development, legal, and operations teams to build industry knowledge and support project-level work
- Serve as an analytical resource for the CFO and Controller on ad hoc requests
- Participate in finance and M&A calls, gaining direct exposure to deal-making and project finance at an active developer
- Contribute to defining the structure and scope of the analyst function as the team scales
- Complete at least one site visit or in-person engagement in your first year to build working knowledge of project development on the ground
About You
Required
- 0 to 2 years of experience in finance, project finance, investment banking, or a related field; recent graduates with business or quantitative major are encouraged to apply
- Background in engineering, applied mathematics, finance, or another quantitative field
- Strong analytical instincts and the ability to work through problems quickly and independently
- Excellent written communication and organizational skills, including ability to manage multi-party deal flow and documentation
- Genuine intellectual curiosity and a desire to grow within a high-performing, mission-driven organization
Preferred
- Demonstrated ability to build and work within financial models, including project finance or DCF frameworks
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including INDEX/MATCH, conditional formulas, and keyboard-driven workflows
- Familiarity with renewable energy project development, including utility-scale solar or energy storage
- Exposure to tax equity structures, investment tax credits (ITC/PTC), or other energy tax incentive frameworks
- Experience supporting M&A processes, including data room management or diligence coordination
