Toray Advanced Composites is a leading supplier of thermoplastic and thermoset composite materials for the aerospace and industrial advanced composite industry. The thermoset composites from Toray Advanced Composites are used on satellites, radomes, unmanned aircraft, general aviation and military aircraft. Toray Advanced Composites also provides thermoset composites in high end industrial and recreational applications ranging from oil and gas to prosthetics to sporting equipment. We provide thermoset materials with epoxy, BMI, cyanate ester or high temperature polyimide resin matrices.

Summary of Functions

The Sr. Director, Human Resources is a highly engaged strategic position responsible for leading a US human resource function supporting a growing manufacturer of advanced composite materials for aerospace products with an organization of about 400 employees and approaching $200 million in revenue with a projected growth plan. Partnering with the CEO and the leadership team, this position leads the on-going development of an exceptional group of highly engaged and motivated employees passionate about the growth of the business. This position guides the development of the talent, influences the progression of the culture and organizational change while serving as a full business partner.

The successful candidate is an accomplished results-oriented Senior Human Resources leader with proven ability to build and lead a strong business partnering with the Human Resources organization. The candidate will initiate, develop and implement an HR strategic plan in align with the business strategic plan to support successful progression of the businesses.

Missions & Activities

  • Supports the people strategy and associated initiatives aligned with Toray's corporate direction
  • Drives best practice and strategic initiatives across the business encompassing almost 400 employees in Morgan Hill and Fairfield California as well as Englewood Colorado
  • Leads, coaches and develops the HR team; responsible for providing both local human resource support and collaboration on a wide variety of strategic human resources initiatives in support of the broader organization
  • Provides executive coaching for senior leaders across the organization through direct feedback and ongoing coaching support with a strong focus on leadership development and the goal of progressing organizational dynamics
  • Oversee and direct a strategic talent management framework which encompasses a variety of activities to attract, identify, develop, and retain critical talent
  • Develops and drives a wide variety of communication and cultural assessment activities across the business, focused on employee engagement and increased communication
  • Leads the communication, engagement and activities related to the Corporate mission, values and principles
  • Oversee and direct the alignment of, recognition and compensation programs to ensure market competitiveness, as well as recognition and retention of talent. Proactively recommend strategy changes to align with HR Strategic Plan and the overall Business Strategy 
  • Ensures all human resource functions related to the organization are aligned and in compliance with local, state, and federal governing laws
  • Develop, implement and manage Human Resources metrics and KPI for tracking and process improvement
  • Manages the 401(k) program and Non-qualified Deferred Compensation program ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations 
  • Prepares and delivers EXCO presentations ensuring effective communication of strategic goal progress
  • Hands-on engagement and support in all areas of human resources and the business

Qualifications & Proficiencies

  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, psychology or other relevant field
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible HR leadership
  • Experience in engineering/technology and manufacturing industry sectors
  • Previous work experience in multi-site and matrix reporting organizations
  • High Level experience and expertise in Change Management
  • Proficient knowledge of US and especially California employment and labor laws and regulations. 
  • Extensive high-level experience with evaluating competitive employee benefits and compensation programs to align with the Company’s strategic goals. 
  • Expertise and proven success in partnering with the business to drive a wide variety of talent management activities focused on assessing talent, future skill needs and development of our global talent.
  • Responsible for management and review of the Company Auto Policy
  • Responsible for management and review of the Company Travel and Entertainment Policy
  • In partnership with Sr. HR Generalist, Employee Relations, manages both the Compliance program which includes BEAR initiatives. 
  • In partnership with Sr. Leadership, coordinates All Hands Meeting on scheduling and program content
  • Partner with EHS regarding the Company Workers’ Compensation Program 
  • Responsible for the management of several mandatory reports from both internal requests and requests from Toray Headquarters.  Such reports include (but are not limited to) HR Mid-term strategic plan, Checklist of Basic HR Items, Corporate Social Activity report and Supplier Audit Questionnaires. 
  • Experience driving positive results on all HR metrics including safety, diversity, and employee engagement
  • Strong collaborator and business partner - enables and facilitates the needs of the business and identifies proactive solutions to challenging situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization in addition to external customers
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and HRIS; ADP preferred

Salary Range: $189,000-255,000 annually DOE
