Shop Assistant / Apprentice Mechanic Position Overview
The Shop Assistant / Apprentice Mechanic is the learner, builder, and future of the trade. Working under the guidance of experienced technicians and shop leadership, you’ll gain hands-on mechanical skills, technical knowledge, and disciplined work habits that define an Industrial Mechanic.

Training & Skill Development- Learn to disassemble, clean, and inspect electric motors, pumps, and gearboxes.
- Assist in diagnostics, bearing replacement, reassembly, and performance testing.
- Develop familiarity with precision measuring tools like micrometers and calipers.
- Maintain an organized workspace — tools, parts, and inventory.
- Assist with cleaning, labeling, and preparing components for testing or shipment.
- Support the team with loading/unloading deliveries and transporting equipment.
- Help document job travelers, serial numbers, and part data as training progresses.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Having or being able to obtain a PA medical card for equipment pick-up/delivery is a plus.
- Follow all UIG safety policies, PPE standards, and SOPs.
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with environmental and safety guidelines.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve daily production goals.
- Accept feedback and coaching with a positive, growth-minded attitude.
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and accountability.
- Contribute to United Industrial’s culture of craftsmanship, curiosity, and excellence.
- High school diploma, GED, or enrollment in a technical program (preferred fields: Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or Electrical Technology).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and enthusiasm for hands-on work.
- Basic understanding of tools, measurements, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely.
- Physically capable of lifting and moving heavy parts with cranes or hoists.
- Eagerness to learn and progress through a structured training program.
