What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Designer/ Detailer position at Topper Industries I, LLC?
Mechanical Designer / Detailer (Inventor or SolidWorks)
Location: Woodland, WA
Type: Full-Time
Build Real Products. Own Your Work.
Topper Industries is a fabrication company that designs and builds large-scale floating dock systems and structural aluminum products used across the U.S.
We’re not a high-volume, repetitive environment — every project is different.
This role sits directly between engineering and the shop, turning ideas into real, buildable products.
If you like hands-on design, autonomy, and seeing what you create get built, this is that role.
The Role
We’re hiring a Mechanical Designer / Detailer to own drawing and modeling work that directly supports fabrication.
This is not a “sit in a corner and draft” role — you’ll work closely with engineering and production to make sure designs actually work in the real world.
You’ll take concepts, refine them, and produce clear, build-ready drawings that the shop relies on.
What You’ll Do
- Create 3D models and fabrication drawings using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks
- Turn concepts and engineering input into shop-ready drawings
- Build assemblies, weldments, and part drawings
- Work directly with fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical and efficient to build
- Update and revise drawings based on real shop feedback
- Help improve how we standardize and produce drawings over time
What We’re Looking For
We’re intentionally open here — if you can do the work, we want to talk.
- Experience with Inventor OR SolidWorks (does not need to be perfect)
- Background in mechanical design, drafting, or fabrication environments
- Ability to create or learn how to create production-ready drawings
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering and shop teams
- Strong attention to detail and ownership over your work
Nice to Have (not required):
- Weldments / fabrication drawing experience
- Aluminum, structural, or manufacturing background
Why This Role Stands Out
- High autonomy – you’ll own your work, not just take orders
- Fast-paced environment – projects move quickly, no red tape
- Real impact – what you design gets built and used
- Strong compensation growth – we pay for capability and upside
- Hands-on collaboration – direct access to engineering and production
Comp & Growth
We offer competitive compensation based on experience, along with strong long-term growth for someone who wants to expand into more responsibility over time.
