Position: Cylinder Technician II

Location: Morristown, TN

Shift: Day Shift | Overtime as required

Pay Rate: $27.78–$31.29/hour

Summary Description

The Cylinder Technician II supports high-quality printing operations by inspecting, preparing, repairing, maintaining, and managing printing cylinders used throughout the production process. Reporting to the Graphics Manager, this position applies cylinder technology and product history to determine when cylinders require polishing, re-chroming, re-engraving, or other corrective work.

This role also works closely with Press crews to troubleshoot production, ink, impression, and cylinder-related issues. The Cylinder Technician II operates specialized equipment, maintains accurate cylinder records, performs press pump maintenance, and helps ensure cylinders are properly prepared and available to support production needs.

What You’ll Be Doing

Cylinder Inspection & Maintenance

• Follow all plant and department safety policies and procedures and use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Maintain company health, housekeeping, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.
• Apply cylinder technology and experience to determine polishing, re-chroming, and re-engraving requirements.
• Inspect incoming cylinders to verify that required work has been completed.
• Inspect cylinders to confirm they have been engraved according to applicable requirements.
• Perform general cylinder preparation, repair, maintenance, handling, receiving, and storage activities.
• Follow established procedures for polishing cylinders.
• Operate the chrome-plating machine to correct minor cylinder damage.
• Operate the lathe to support impression-related work.
• Properly handle and store cylinders to help prevent damage and maintain production readiness.
• Use experience and product history to make appropriate decisions regarding cylinder condition and required corrective actions.
  
  

Press & Production Support

• Work closely with Press crews to identify and resolve press, production, ink, impression, and cylinder-related issues.
• Assist Press teams with corrective actions when cylinder or printing issues are identified.
• Perform pump maintenance for the presses.
• Help troubleshoot cylinder-related issues that may impact print quality or production performance.
• Coordinate with Graphics and Press team members to ensure cylinders are properly prepared for production requirements.
• Support production needs and respond to cylinder-related issues as they arise.
  
  

Cylinder Tracking & Department Support

• Build and maintain cylinder history records within the computer database.
• Review cylinder inventory and database information as needed.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and legible logs and records.
• Operate a forklift as required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Work effectively both independently and collaboratively with other team members.
• Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
• Work overtime as required to support production needs.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• You are certified as a Cylinder Technician I.
• You have a high school diploma or GED.
• You are forklift certified.
• You can follow instructions and complete assignments on time in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• You can maintain logs and records accurately, legibly, and on time.
• You demonstrate the desire, ability, and initiative to continue advancing through the progression process.
• You can use your experience and product history to make sound judgment calls regarding cylinder conditions and production needs.
• You maintain high standards of professionalism when working with customers and coworkers.
• You can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Computer and organizational skills are a plus.
