JOB SUMMARY

The Instrument Technician must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Will work primarily in the field on control, topographic, boundary, and all other surveys as Instrument Technician of a two or three-person field crew at an assigned worksite.

INTER-RELATIONSHIPS

Employees, Managers, and Supervisors throughout the corporation, and various external customers, vendors, consultants, and governmental regulatory officials.

MAJOR TASKS

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Cut and remove brush and undergrowth for line-of-sight.
  • Performs mathematical calculations and field checking of field data.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Know basic sources of measurement errors.
  • Dig ground using a pick, shovel, and other hand tools to search for and locate survey monuments.
  • Hold and plum rod in obtaining elevations and distances.
  • Drive stakes to set grades on construction projects.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Know, understand, and demonstrate safe working/operating methods of assigned tools and equipment.

JOB SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be experienced in controlling the function of surveying instruments and calculators.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

MENTAL DEMANDS

The following mental demands are required to perform the essential functions of this job: concentrate, conceptualize, cooperative work with others/teamwork, detailed work, frequent task changes, irregular schedule as needed, learn new tasks, interruptive /distractive environment, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, reasoning, problem solving, time pressures.

STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE

Topographic field hours are Mon-Sat 7:00 am to 5:00 pm; other hours and days may be necessary to meet the objectives of the position.

The specific schedule for this role will be based on location and department.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Travel

Travel to worksites may be required.
