Financial Analyst Key Responsibilities
- Analyze financial and operational data to assess organizational financial health while developing financial projections and departmental budgets
- Analyze financial performance and identify variances against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
- Develop financial models to support business decisions, pricing strategies, and investment opportunities.
- Analyze distribution costs including transportation, warehousing, technology, labor, and inventory costs.
- Evaluate product margins, customer profitability, and category performance.
- Partner with operations leadership to identify cost reduction and maintain financial reports, dashboards, and performance metrics for leadership.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as inventory turnover, gross margin, and operating margin.
- Support month-end and year-end close by providing financial analysis and variance explanations.
- Assist leadership in evaluating capital investments such as warehouse expansion, automation, fleet turnover, warehouse equipment, or technology improvements.
- Provide financial insights for pricing strategies, vendor negotiations, and contract evaluations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across operations and purchasing.
- Support system implementations, financial reporting tools, and ERP enhancements.
Financial Analyst Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- 2–5 years of financial analysis experience, preferably in distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or supply chain environments.
- Understanding of distribution industry KPIs and financial metrics used to evaluate profitability, operational efficiency, and overall financial health
- Strong financial modeling and data analysis skills.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools preferred.
- Ability to translate complex data into clear insights for operational leaders.
- Experience with AS400, ERP systems (VAI S2K preferred).
- Experience supporting operations, sales, and purchasing leaders.
