Job Summary:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Import Specialist to join our Ocean Freight Forwarding team. The Import Specialist will be responsible for coordinating and managing international ocean import shipments, ensuring compliance with all customs regulations, and delivering excellent service to clients throughout the import process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage full-container load (FCL) and less-than-container load (LCL) ocean import shipments from origin to final delivery.
- Communicate with overseas agents, carriers, customs brokers, and clients to ensure timely and accurate shipment movement.
- Prepare and review all import documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, arrival notices, and ISF filings.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other government agencies’ import regulations.
- Monitor cargo arrivals, clearances, and delivery status; proactively resolve delays or exceptions.
- Input and maintain accurate shipment data in the company’s freight management system.
- Verify and approve vendor invoices, freight charges, and other related costs.
- Provide professional and timely communication with clients regarding shipment status, issues, or documentation needs.
- Work closely with internal departments including customer service, customs brokerage, accounting, and sales to ensure smooth operations.
- Stay up to date with changes in import regulations, HTS classifications, tariffs, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, International Business, or related field is a plus.
- 2 years of experience in ocean import operations within a freight forwarding or logistics company.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. import regulations, documentation, and customs procedures.
- Experience with AMS, ISF filings, and working with customs brokers.
- Familiarity with freight forwarding software (e.g., CargoWise, Magaya, Descartes) is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
