Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accounting Specialist to take ownership of key balance sheet accounts, with a primary focus on inventory and fixed assets. This role will also be responsible for reviewing P&L accounts to ensure the accuracy and integrity of balance sheet data. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting fundamentals, critical thinking skills, and a commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, particularly inventory and fixed assets.
- Review P&L accounts to verify the completeness and accuracy of related balance sheet entries.
- Prepare and analyze monthly account reconciliations and journal entries.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare reports: Generate financial summaries, expense reports, and support schedules for auditors or management.
- Support internal and external audit requirements.
- Manage DOT and other government filings as required
- Recommend and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and control.
- Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and GAAP or IFRS standards.
- Support audits: Provide documentation and respond to auditor requests.
- Monitor internal controls: Identify and correct discrepancies or errors.
Qualifications
- Certificate or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- 2 years of accounting experience preferred; inventory or fixed asset accounting experience a plus.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
- Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis tools.
- In-depth understanding of inventory costing methods (FIFO, LIFO, weighted average).
- Knowledge of capitalization policies and depreciation methods for fixed assets.
- Familiarity with internal controls and audit processes.
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
