Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused person. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations within our Cheese and Deli department. This position requires excellent customer service skills, cash handling abilities, and organization skills.
*The hourly wage is based off prior job experience.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide exceptional service throughout their shopping experience.
- Operate cash registers accurately, processing transactions and handling cash with precision.
- Assist customers with inquiries regarding products, services, and promotions.
- Perform upselling techniques to enhance the customer experience and increase sales.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cheese department, retail tables and store displays. .
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient store operations and customer satisfaction.
- Adhere to all safety and health regulations within the food industry.
Requirements
- Flexibility to work shifts, including all weekends and holidays. We are a destination business so we are busiest on the weekends and Holidays.
- Prepare the cheese department for opening and closing.
- Attention to detail is a must.
- Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count and condition. Communicates any issues to management and merchandising team.
- Stocks, rotates and faces products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
- Builds displays and arranges department products to make attractive presentations, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items.
- Cuts, wraps, weighs, prices, and displays products.
- Record and handles shrink, damaged and past-date product according to company policy.
- Complete customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
- Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
- Understands and complies with specific shift guidelines, tasks and responsibilities.
- Maintains cleanliness, organization and rotation of all areas, products and supplies.
- Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
- Maintains awareness of current ads, promotions, holidays and events.
- Demonstrates familiarity with products in department, with willingness to continue learning.
- Notifies department manager or Manager on Duty (MOD) of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on the store.
- Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

- Physical Demands
This position works at a Medium level. Required frequently and up to continuously to be on feet with a mix of standing and walking throughout shift. Sitting seldom required. Up to occasionally, dependent on location, required use a step stool. Continuously required to: lift and carry 1-10 pounds; use arms, hands and wrists; grasping/squeezing; reach at/above shoulder; reach below shoulder. Frequently required to: lift and carry 11-20 pounds; bend/stoop; twist. Occasionally required to: lift and carry 21-50 pounds; push and/or pull 1-40 pounds; crouch/squat.
This position may be required to use the following tools and equipment: box knife, scanner, hand truck, POS register system , industrial kitchen equipment (i.e. knives/blades, small mixer, cheese cutting board, scales, etc.), basic housekeeping / janitorial and standard office equipment.
Work Environment
Work occurs in a grocery store environment which includes surfaces that can be wet and slippery, moderate noise level, and temperature extremes in controlled environments in the cooler and freezer, and depending on location, working outside in all temperatures. There may be exposure to certain allergens and / or chemicals.
