Schedule Expectations

TCAT's Bus Garage hums 24 hrs a day, 5 days a week with a unionized team of 12 mechanics and 6 handlers, all focused on keeping our buses running reliably.  Mechanics are scheduled in three shifts: 6 AM - 2:30 PM, 2:00 PM  - 10:30 PM, 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM.  Each shift is coordinated by one of three overlapping Maintenance Supervisors, who report to the Vehicle Maintenance Manager.  Supervisor working schedules are subject to change based on operational needs and the ideal candidate will have broad availability for a shifting schedule on a flexible basis.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and support a team of mechanics and apprentices performing fleet vehicle maintenance
• Assign and prioritize repair & maintenance tasks according to management priorities
• Ensure compliance with NYS & federal transit maintenance regulations (we'll train you!)
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, performance, inspections, service hours, and inventory
• Collaborate with the Parts Coordinator to keep our shop running smoothly

What You Bring

• Collaborative growth mindset and a passion for leading & coaching
• Comfortable with computer systems (Excel, etc.)
• 1-3 years of supervisory or team lead experience (union experience is a plus!)
• Prefer: 3 years of heavy equipment or diesel maintenance experience 
• Prefer: Basic knowledge of diesel engines, drive trains, brakes, hydraulics, and electronic diagnostics
• Safe driver record, and willing to get CDL with endorsements (required for this safety sensitive position)
