As a Bus Operator at TCAT, you will hold a key role in providing our community with safe, reliable, and affordable transportation to and from work, school, and business in Ithaca and surrounding commuter communities. We run 50 buses along 30 routes, 360 days a year, for approximately 22 hrs each day to get our friends and neighbors where they need to go. Our Operators are punctual, dependable, customer service-oriented, and safety-minded individuals who enjoy helping their community get there safely and on-time!

Basic Functions:

Play a key role in keeping our vibrant community connected and moving throughout Tompkins County.

Ensure safe, courteous, on-time transportation in a variety of commercial transit vehicles in a variety of weather conditions.

Support TCAT's accessibility & customer service goals by assisting riders with information about routes, schedules, and transfers.

Communicate effectively with Dispatch through verbal and written reports.

Qualifications
• Must be at least 21 years old with clean & valid NY class D driver license
o CDL-A or CDL-B license with passenger & air brake endorsements preferred
o Commercial License Permit preferred
• Excellent communication and customer service skills to deal with diverse customers and coworkers in positive and respectful manner
• Reliable transportation to Ithaca in all weather conditions
• Flexible schedule and availability for occasional overtime or mandated shifts
Requirements
• Motor vehicle record check
• Verification of past employment
• DOT physical examination & FTA drug test (including marijuana)
• Criminal background check

Physical Demands
• Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds
• Work requires the ability to reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch and climb ladders on a regular basis in the performance of mechanical work
• Required to use hands, fingers and arms to reach, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls
• Stands and walks for long periods of time in the performance of duties
• Ability to receive directions and interact with coworkers
