What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Coach/Housing Coordinator position at Tompkins Community Action?
The Housing Coordinator supports the implementation of the Making Moves Mobility program within the Housing Choice Voucher Program by providing direct service to families seeking to move to well-resourced areas in Tompkins County. This position supports a caseload, assisting them from intake through their first two years of program participation. Responsibilities include conducting eligibility assessments, facilitating housing searches, coordinating lease-up and move-in activities, and providing ongoing case management to promote long-term stability. This position engages in landlord and community outreach, ensures compliance with program regulations, maintains accurate documentation, and collaborates with agency and community partners to connect participants with needed resources.
- Implements day-to-day services provided to program participants by maintaining assigned caseload
- Conducts eligibility activities for program enrollment including document review, interviews, and housing assessments to inform goal planning and action steps
- Provides case management support for participants from intake through the first two years of program participation, including resource identification and goal planning.
- Activities include housing search activities, providing intensive support through the lease up and move process and ongoing support to maximize housing stability after lease signing
- Schedules and completes initial home visits and quarterly check- ins with program participants after move activities are completed
- Provides transportation to support housing search activities, workshop attendance and appointments related to accessing benefits and resources
- Supports participant with filing housing discrimination complaints with appropriate authorities and fair housing organizations
- Conducts community and landlord outreach as needed to promote housing access for program participants, includes attending community meetings
- Maintains resource information about neighborhoods and available housing units to support housing search activities
- Maintains connections with community partners and resources to facilitate educational opportunities and service referrals for participants
- Assist participants via telephone, appointments, and/or walk-in meetings; maintains required response time as defined by program procedures
- Prepares and submits all required program recertifications and reports by prescribed deadlines
- Provide property owners, and/or managers, with appropriate program information and facilitates collaborative relationships
- Provides office support such as managing phone calls, preparing letters, filing, copying, and faxing
- May include evenings and weekends hours to assist participants with workshop attendance, housing search or other program activities
Minimum Qualification
- HS Diploma or GED AND two (2) years’ work experience with direct consumer interaction
- Meet TCAction criteria for satisfactory driver’s license to access agency vehicles for program related activities
- Preference given to bilingual applicants
