What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finance Accountant position at Tomoka Christian Church?
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Finance Director, the Finance Accountant will be responsible to perform the accounting duties outlined below as part of the Tomoka Christian Church, Inc.’s finance team. The candidate should feel called to serve Christ’s Kingdom vocationally in order to improve efficiencies, workflows, and systems in support of the mission of the Church. Ideal candidates thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and are available to work 40–50 hours per week.
Job Responsibilities & Duties:
- Enter weekly contributions into Planning Center Church Management System for general fund, building fund, special funds, and donor-designated funds, verify proper coding of revenue reports, and generate weekly reports.
- Prepare and record deposits in QuickBooks Desktop.
- Reconcile bank, investment, designated funds, payroll, employee benefits, fixed assets, credit cards, café, thrift store, and other financial accounts monthly.
- Prepare various monthly adjusting journal entries for expense allocations, prepaid expenses, prepaid insurance, deferred revenue and expense accruals.
- Responsible for month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements to the Finance Director, departmental Directors, Executive Pastor, and Elders.
- Prepare annual 1096, 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC.
- Prepare bi-weekly payroll using Paylocity software.
- Prepare ad hoc reports and other tasks as required by the Finance Director.
Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel) and QuickBooks desktop.
- Experience with the following software platforms a plus: Planning Center Giving, Ramp and Paylocity.
- Working knowledge of finance principles and practices as they apply to a non-profit Religious organization including accrual accounting and GAAP.
- Attention to detail and perform financial tasks with accuracy.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Working towards a Certified Public Account accreditation is a plus.
Experience:
- Practical experience in accrual based accounting and account reconciliation.
- Minimum of four years working in a non-profit accounting environment.
- Working in a church accounting environment is a plus.
