Overview
Tommy's Small Engine is looking for an experienced Small Engine Mechanic to join our team. Ideally, the candidate will have experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various outdoor power equipment. Full and Part Time Positions available. Experience is a must. Position Summary: Diagnosing and repairing various outdoor power equipment including, but not limited to lawn tractors, snow blowers, pressure washers, generators, and push mowers. Position Responsibilities:· Able to diagnose and perform repairs within established time parameters· Perform routine maintenance on various types of small engines· Test repaired equipment to ensure functioning properly· Maintain clean and organized work area· Establish and maintain positive working relationships with both fellow team members and clientele· Basic computer skills for looking up parts and processing customer paperwork· Provide exemplary customer service and communication with customers Qualifications:· Technical school certificate and/or 3-6 months related hands-on experience· Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions and equipment schematics· Ability to bend, kneel, and squat· Strong work ethic and punctuality· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment· Will train the right candidate
Duties
- Diagnose issues with small engines, including lawnmowers, generators, trimmers, and other outdoor power equipment using schematics and technical manuals
- Perform repairs on engines, electrical systems, fuel systems, and mechanical components with precision and attention to detail
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, and heavy lifting techniques to complete repairs efficiently
- Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, belt adjustments, and engine tune-ups to ensure equipment longevity
- Troubleshoot electrical problems and repair wiring or electrical components on various small engine machines
- Read and interpret schematics for complex diesel engines and heavy equipment repairs including Caterpillar machinery
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding repair needs, maintenance tips, and service recommendations to enhance customer service experience
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a service technician or mechanic specializing in small engines or outdoor power equipment; dealership experience is highly desirable
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to read schematics and technical manuals accurately
- Hands-on experience repairing diesel engines, generators, or heavy machinery such as Caterpillar equipment
- Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering devices, and other mechanical repair tools
- Knowledge of electrical systems and electrical troubleshooting techniques
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and work in physically demanding environments
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly
- Prior experience in automotive or equipment repair is a plus; sales experience is beneficial for promoting maintenance services

Pay: $15.00 - $30.00 per hour
