What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic position at Tommy House Tire - Best One?
General Responsibilities:
- Perform repairs on dry van trailers (brakes, tires, doors, roofs, lights, etc.)
- Daily inspections of outgoing trailers to ensure DOT compliance
- Welding, fabrication, and metal repair work
- Maintain records of inspections, repairs, and parts usage
- Support Fleet Manager with parts inventory and scheduling
- Assist with power industrial truck (PIT) and tractor repairs
- Respond to occasional road calls
- Follow all safety procedures and work cleanly and efficiently
Skills Required:
- 2 years’ experience in trailer repair and welding (required)
- Strong knowledge of air brakes, ABS, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Familiar with dry van trailers (flatbed/walking floor a plus)
- Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus)
- Must have own tools and safety boots (6" ankle height, safety toe)
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and physical
Physical Demands:
- Engage in standing, bending, lifting, crawling, and climbing for 6-8 hours per day.
- Occasional lifting is required (80 lbs. maximum)
Working Environment:
Indoor and Outdoor working environment. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; Vibrations; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may be loud. PPE is provided by company with exception of work boots. Monday Thru Friday 1st shift work schedule with overtime available when needed.
