Job Title: Lead Custodian

PM Shift (2:30 PM -11:00 PM or 3:00 PM-11:30 PM)
Primary Purpose:
Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain the District's standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
Qualifications:
Ability to read, write and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures.
Some experience in custodial procedures, demonstrated leadership experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of basic techniques of minor repairs and building maintenance.
Ability to operate Custodial equipment .
Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.
Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. without assistance.
Ability to supervise and distribute workload.
Ability to read, write, communicate effectively.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maintain a custodial program according to District standard of cleanliness to ensure the comfort, health and safety of students and staff.
- Be responsible for opening and closing the building when needed and executing procedures for locking, checking and safeguarding facilities.
- Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include the cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment and restrooms.
- Keep the school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas neat and clean.
- Inform Supervisor of safety hazards; follow all safety codes and standards.
- Inspect custodial machines and equipment for safety and efficiency; maintain and inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as needed.
- Move furniture and equipment within the building as directed by the Building Liaison.
- Provide flexibility for emergency work situations, i.e., natural disasters, water damage, theft, vandalism. Availability to work flexible hours/phone availability.
- Distribute workload (i.e., extra duties, B-plan, setups); complete paperwork as required by custodial office (i.e., timesheets, custodial supply forms, update MSDS book); enforce rules and regulations of programs such as: Infectious Disease, Hazardous Chemical Use and Disposal, Asbestos Hazard Awareness, Dust mop Treatment.
- Assist Supervisor in performance evaluations of custodians.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, flexibility and be willing to perform any additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Train custodians at assigned location in established cleaning procedures and techniques.
Working Conditions:
Strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; heavy lifting and/or carrying; pushing, reaching, kneeling, repeated bending and stooping. Work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; excessive humidity; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders; work alone, work with others, and wear a safety belt.
