POSITION DETAILS

Per diem, non-benefitted; Varied day shifts between 7a-730p, minimum of 12 hours per month; No holiday, weekend or on-call requirements; Shift differentials after 3pm apply.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Imaging Director and according to established policies and procedures, performs all required ultrasound procedures with knowledge of all pertinent technical and academic areas to produce consistent, high quality examinations.  The Ultrasound Technologist functions independently within the broad scope of established department policies and goals; generally refers specific problems to supervisors only when clarifications of operating policies and procedures may be required.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTION

  1. Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
  2. Maintains a clean and organized work environment, wipes down all equipment routinely, and stocks supplies accordingly.
  3. Maintains an efficient log for Cidex QA and replaces filter for probe cleaner as needed.
  4. Positions and transfers patients comfortably.
  5. Performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecological scans, localization for treatment planning and minor surgical procedures.
  6. Assists Radiologist or Provider in such procedures as needle biopsies, cyst aspirations, PICC Line placements, etc.  
  7. Verifies that all acquired images have archived in Merge PACS and are viewable prior to submitting the exam to the Radiologist for dictation and processes exam from HMS worklist to assure proper billing.
  8. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental and infections control standards.
  9. Enhances self-growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
  10. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient ranging from newborn to geriatric.
  11. Demonstrates flexibility regarding schedule changes and uses time efficiently.
  12. Notifies Imaging Director of any concerns that directly affect the Imaging Department.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Graduated from an approved School of Ultrasonography.
  3. May be registered by the American Registry of Ultrasound Technologists. If not operates under the indirect supervision of a Radiologist.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.
  3. Must acquire the knowledge and maintain established competency levels to perform essential radiologic practice.
  4. Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress, with minimal supervision, and to exercise initiative and judgment in analyzing, organizing, planning, prioritizing, scheduling and coordinating work with others.
  5. Needs to possess as high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.
  6. Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
  7. Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for infant through geriatric patients.
  8. Prior Ultrasound experience preferred

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk and hear.
  2. Frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.  Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  3. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
