POSITION DETAILS

Full-time, benefited; Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm, no holidays or weekends required. 

JOB SUMMARY

The Emergency Management Specialist is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of emergency response plans and procedures in coordination with the Environment of Care and Preparedness Committees. Provides disaster management training along with preparing and conducting drills and exercises.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTION

  1. Prepare and maintain plans that outline operating procedures to be used in response to disasters or emergencies, and in recovery from these events.

  2. Develop and maintain liaisons with municipalities, county departments, and similar entities to facilitate plan development and response effort coordination.

  3. Collaborates with area emergency personnel to develop and maintain working partnerships to meet community needs.

  4. Design and administer emergency or disaster management training that teach staff how to effectively respond to all hazards.

  5. Maintain knowledge of current developments in area of expertise.

  6. Develop and perform tests and evaluations of emergency management plans in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  7. Collaborate with organizational members to prepare and analyze damage assessments following disasters, emergencies, or training exercises.

  8. Maintain operational records.

  9. Prepare reports related to compliance matters.

  10. Propose alteration of all hazards plan based on regulatory changes, technological advances, or knowledge gained from outcomes of previous emergency situations or training.

  11. Communicate with governmental agencies and/or external agencies when appropriate.

  12. Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops related to emergency management to learn new information and to develop working relationships with other emergency management specialists.

  13. Keep informed of federal, state, and local regulations affecting emergency plans and ensure that plans adhere to these regulations.

  14. Prepare operational progress or status reports.

  15. Performs other duties as assigned or directed and within the scope of abilities.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Associate’s degree in emergency management, project management, or business administration required.

  2. Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, project management, or business administration preferred.

  3. Previous Emergency Management experience preferred.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  2. Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.

  3. Must have proficient computer skills with the ability to operate within a Windows environment.

  4. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

  5. Self-directed with full recognition of limitations of the role and must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress and with minimal supervision.

  6. Needs to possess as high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.

  7. Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk and hear.

  2. Frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.  The Emergency Management Coordinator is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.

  3. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  4. Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.

  5. Visual acuity is needed to assess color changes, to verify accuracy of written materials.

  6. Computer/keyboard skills required.  Must have the ability to operate in a Windows environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as infectious/communicable diseases, noise, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, dusts.  Must be able to function effectively under stressful situations.
