Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Interconnection Specialist tohelp support the technical and administrative process of connecting Tom Watson, Inc.'s energy projects to the electric grid. This associate-level role will help prepare interconnection applications, track utility/AHJ approvals, and coordinate technical requirements between design teams and utility inspector's operators. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, familiar with utility standards, and able to manage documents, timelines, and communications efficiently.
Responsibilities - The interconnection specialist is a critical administrative position with many responsibilities; therefore, it is important to have a diverse skill set, including the ability to:
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to understand project scopes, interconnection requirements, and timelines.
- Work closely with the installation team to provide technical support and address any design-related issues during construction.
- Support preparation and submission of interconnection applications.
- Track utility responses, review interconnection study results, and maintain permitting logs.
- Communicate with utility representatives regarding application status and required actions.
- Maintain internal project trackers and update project teams on interconnection milestones.
- Support grid readiness documentation and commissioning coordination as needed.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in solar technology, electrical codes, and industry best practices.
- Potentially assist with site assessments and data gathering for project design.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering technology, Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or a related field preferred. Equivalent practical experience in electrical design will also be considered.
- Proven experience (typically 1-3 years) in electrical design, preferably within the solar PV industry or electrical contracting.
- Familiarity in CAD software (e.g., AutoCad) is preferred. Experience with solar-specific design software (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of basic electrical principles, circuits, and wiring practices.
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and relevant industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and codes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and collaboration skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Passion for renewable energy and sustainability.
