Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast and friendly service.
- Receive all DSD (Direct Store Delivery) shipments; log deliveries and all non-Albertsons/Tom Thumb distribution deliveries into the computer system.
- Break down loads from DSD suppliers; transport product from receiving area to freezer or cooler as needed.
- Ensure cost control, quality control, and inventory control by:
- Verifying orders against invoices
- Auditing product case contents
- Using electronic receiving system to confirm costs
- Maintain invoices and reports in the established filing system per record retention schedule.
- Review and accept only proper and correct orders submitted by outside sales representatives.
- Prevent shrink, damage, and spoilage of products; repair and price damaged product if saleable; discard or return damaged product to vendor as required.
- Maintain security, sanitation, and organization of receiving, storage, and loading dock areas.
- Perform training duties for staff.
- Operate related equipment such as:
- Manual/electric pallet jacks
- Power lifts
- Balers and compactors
- Safety cutters, scissors, pricing guns
- Telephone and computer equipment (handheld units, printers)
- Occasionally perform duties such as ordering, stocking, facing, pricing, marking, and rotating dairy and frozen food items in the absence of clerks.
- Inspect backroom equipment (e.g., pallet jack, baler) and report malfunctions to Store Director.
- Follow and maintain department standards and requirements.
- Train employees in store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures.
- Identify and develop employees with high potential for advancement.
- Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
- Enforce proper code dating for all products within the department.
- Control shrink and costs.
- Comply with all workplace safety rules and regulations.
- Ensure safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of work area and equipment.
- Implement emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions.
- Comply with company grooming standards and dress code.
- Perform all job duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain professionalism.
- Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to 60 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, and repetitive arm movements.
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination; ability to stand for long periods.
- Mental alertness for safe and accurate work completion.
- Basic math skills; knowledge of weights, measures, product standards, perishability, sanitation, labeling, and department policies.
- Ability to operate telephone, pallet jack, hand truck, power lifts, balers, scissors, and safety cutters; utilize cleaning supplies and equipment.
- May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; variable schedule; good attendance required.
- Exposure to potential hazards related to equipment and work aids.
- Primarily temperature-controlled environment.
- Frequent exposure to refrigerated conditions (around 35°F) and occasional exposure to freezer conditions (-20°F).
- Occasional travel, including overnight, may be required.
