About the Role
The Portfolio Accountant plays a key role within the Accounting Department and Support Center, with responsibility for a designated portfolio of restaurant locations. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, the ability to leverage software platforms (Ottimate, Restaurant365, ADP, Concur), and a disciplined, detail-oriented approach to executing weekly and monthly accounting procedures. The ideal candidate brings prior restaurant accounting experience, exceptional organizational skills, and a problem-solving mindset.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily restaurant sales validations, including research and resolution of discrepancies.
- Manage full-cycle accounts payable process including, Monitoring AP inbox and processing invoices through AP software, Validating GL coding, Managing vendor communications, Account reconciliations
- Overseeing payment distribution and resolving inquiries/disputes
- Match and reconcile daily transactional bank activity; perform formal monthly bank reconciliations.
- Execute weekly accounting accruals for rent, bonus, insurance, and other entries as necessary to support weekly operational reporting.
- Review and import bi-monthly restaurant payroll journal entries and monthly bonus journal entries.
- Record corporate credit card usage into the general ledger.
- Calculate, compile, and communicate monthly gross sales/percent rent statements to landlords/property managers.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with month-end checklist.
- Maintain and reconcile fixed asset subledger and reporting, including preparation of depreciation journal entries.
- Act as liaison to restaurant operators and resolve accounting issues timely.
- Analyze weekly and monthly financial statements for accuracy.
- Manage accounting and other setup tasks for new restaurant openings.
- Assist with annual audit and other ad hoc financial statement requests.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business is preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of previous experience; restaurant industry accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Prior knowledge of Ottimate (or other AP software) and/or R365 (or other restaurant-specific GL software) strongly desired.
- Proficiency in Excel; including data extraction and manipulation across multiple sources.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and resolve anomalies quickly.
- Problem-solving and solutions-oriented approach.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, essential for partnering with restaurant operators and cross-functional teams.
