Job Summary
The Automotive Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the automotive repair shop while ensuring excellent customer service and efficient workflow. This role coordinates shop scheduling, supervises technicians, assists with vehicle diagnostics when needed, and communicates clearly with customers regarding repairs and maintenance. Key Responsibilities
Shop Operations & Management
- Oversee and manage daily shop operations to ensure efficiency, productivity, and safety.
- Schedule and prioritize repair and maintenance work to maximize technician productivity and meet customer timelines.
- Monitor job progress and ensure repairs are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and compliance with safety standards.
- Manage inventory and order parts, tools, and shop supplies as needed.
- Coordinate with parts vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Supervise and support technicians and shop staff to maintain quality workmanship and productivity.
- Assign tasks and monitor technician performance.
- Assist with hiring, training, and onboarding new employees.
- Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Assist technicians with vehicle diagnostics and troubleshooting when needed.
- Utilize automotive knowledge and mechanical experience to help identify repair solutions.
- Review repair orders and confirm accurate diagnosis before work is completed.
- Ensure all repairs meet quality standards and manufacturer or industry guidelines.
Customer Service
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding service inquiries and repair needs.
- Greet customers, assess vehicle concerns, and clearly explain recommended services and repairs.
- Prepare and communicate accurate estimates for parts, labor, and repair timelines.
- Prepare and maintain repair orders, invoices, and service records.
- Provide regular updates on repair status and address customer questions or concerns.
- Resolve customer service issues professionally and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Check out customers by processing invoices and payments using ShopBoss shop management software.
- Ensure proper documentation of all services and repairs performed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an automotive shop manager, service advisor, lead technician, or similar role.
- Strong background and hands-on experience in automotive mechanics and repair.
- Ability to assist with vehicle diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency with shop management software and standard office applications.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE Certification or equivalent automotive certifications.
- Prior experience supervising technicians or managing shop operations.
- Experience with diagnostic equipment and ShopBoss shop management software.
