Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Auto Body Prepper to join our team. The Prepper plays a critical role in the refinishing process by preparing vehicles and parts for painting. Responsibilities include sanding, masking, and priming surfaces to ensure a flawless finish once paint is applied. This is a hands-on role requiring precision, consistency, and a strong work ethic.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sand vehicle surfaces (by hand or using power tools) to remove old paint, rust, or debris.
- Mask and tape off trim, windows, and other areas not being painted.
- Apply primer, putty, and sealers to surfaces as needed.
- Inspect and identify surface imperfections and correct them before painting.
- Ensure vehicles are clean and dust-free prior to entering the paint booth.
- Move vehicles in and out of prep and paint areas.
- Maintain prep stations and equipment in clean and safe working order.
- Assist painters and body techs as needed with materials and tasks.
- Follow all safety procedures for tools, equipment, and chemical handling.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in auto body preparation preferred.
- Familiarity with sanding techniques, masking, and basic body filler use.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (lifting, bending, standing for long periods).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Team-oriented with good communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using DA sanders, sanding blocks, and masking materials.
- Knowledge of basic automotive refinishing products (primers, sealers, etc.).
- Understanding of workflow in a collision repair environment.
