The Director of Client Bookkeeping Services is responsible for leading and managing the client bookkeeping team, overseeing complex client accounts, and ensuring accurate, tax-compliant financial reporting. Key duties include client onboarding, training managers and associates, monitoring departmental revenue, collaborating with internal teams, managing specialty accounting areas, and maintaining high bookkeeping standards while fostering a positive work environment and departmental growth.
DUTIES And Responsibilities
- Provide oversight and leadership to a team of 12 associates, senior staff, and managers
- Address staffing changes or increased workload by delegating effectively and balancing team capacity to meet deadlines and client expectations
- Ensure staff effectively manage bill payment/accounts payable (Bill.com), meet bookkeeping and reconciliation standards, and prepare financials on time
- Oversee internal deadlines for all financials, from drafts to client-ready documents
- Train managers on best practices for accounts payable, recovery processes, investment booking, and customized reporting
- Manage audit functions, client payroll onboarding, specialty accounting, fee estimates, departmental custody/account lists, invoice reconciliation, journal entry reviews, and onboarding clean-up
- Collaborate with clients and tax advisors on accurate financial reporting and tax compliance
- Present bill pay demos, review financials, provide feedback, and coach for continuous improvement
- Serve as a payer for Bill.com accounts and present fee estimates as needed
- Liaise with outside CPAs, review tax adjustments, and align client financials to tax returns
- Facilitate Client Advisory meetings with both current and prospective clients on Bookkeeping services
- Join leadership meetings and carry out executive directives across the department
- Track departmental revenue and meet growth targets
- Strategically assign clients, identify trends or process issues, and drive training for improvement
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing complex books/clients, including leading bookkeeping/accounting teams
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required
- CPA certification preferred
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word Outlook), QuickBooks online and Bill.com
- Strong team player with demonstratable thoroughness and ability to work independently and collaborate across teams when needed
- Demonstrated attention to detail, adaptability, and a proactive approach to taking initiative
- Professional client-facing presence and collaborative team player
