POSITION: Para Educator- Level I

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Provide small group instruction to at-risk students. Supervise students during recess and lunch times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma
• Associate of Arts Degree, 2 years of college credits or Para Educator Praxis
• Preferred elementary school office experience

ESSENTIALS FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary and without notice. Depending upon individuals assignments, the para I will perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

• Ability to maintain a student centered, organized positive climate

• Communicate and respond effectively and in a friendly, professional manner with students, parents, community members, and school personnel.

• Work collaboratively and collegially.

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• Ability to plan, instruct, and supervise elementary age students
• Ability to work one-on-one or in a small group with highly at-risk middle/high school students.
• Ability to provide support, assistance and give specific instruction under the direction of a certified LAP Director.
• Skilled at record keeping and computers.
• Monitor students both in and out the classroom.

STATE/DISTRICT MANDATED REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid First Aid/CPR/AED card or ability to attain one
• Fingerprinting (paid by employee)
• Proof of Immunization (if born 1-1-57 or later)
• I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigration Reform Act
• HIV/HBV Training (district provided)
• Sexual Harassment Training (district provided)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

• 180 Days per year
• 6 Hours per day
