Assistant Manager/Librarian IV
Position Summary
As part of the management team at the agency, is responsible for assisting the manager and in the absence of the manager is responsible for the patron’s library experience, including the physical site management, staffing, customer service and other library services. Under the direction of the agency manager and in cooperation with the Youth Services Coordinator, the Assistant Manager takes a lead role in teen/tween services and programming for the agency. The position also takes an active role in the development and maintenance of the agency’s relationships in the community, including schools, businesses, and local organizations.
The incumbent will have strong leadership skills and demonstrate a commitment to the TLCPL’s mission and values including being welcoming, innovative, objective, accountable, and collaborative.
Primary Responsibilities
Library services – assists in the management and maintenance of a strong and current floating collection; develops cost effective public programs; provides high quality reference and reader’s advisory services, and technology services.
Staff & property management – as assigned and in the absence of the manager directs daily activities, including personnel matters, reporting/statistics and training, and forms goals and plans for the agency with an eye for continuous improvement, attends to consistent and ongoing training needs.
Leadership – in partnership with manager and supervisor sets the service tone for the agency, fosters teamwork and communication, guides new staff and keeps more senior staff motivated, builds consensus. Exemplifies excellent public service and social skills. Actively supports diversity, equity and inclusion. Promotes a culture where all staff and customers belong.
Outreach – assists in the establishment and maintenance of agency’s presence in the local community by participating in organizations and committees and delegating outreach activities to staff; recommends and promotes use of Library resources and services
Professionalism – maintains current knowledge of profession and applies awareness to agency work, maintains active membership in professional organizations, actively participates in committee work, collaborates effectively with other Library agencies and administrators, represents the Library in a positive, professional manner.
Knowledge/Skills
- Interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and work cooperatively with all staff and the public.
- Ability to plan, assign, delegate, manage and evaluate performance and assignments.
- Knowledge of principles of library science and library methods, and library resources.
- Ability to speak publicly at professional and community functions as a Library representative.
Training/Experience/Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Two (2) years professional library experience.
- Experience providing reader’s advisory to adults and teens/tweens.
- Experience with analyzing complex data and utilizing Microsoft Excel.
- A valid driver’s license; must be insured and meet your state’s minimum coverage requirements for auto insurance.
- Must meet insurance eligibility requirements of the Library’s insurance carrier under the Library’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
- May be required to drive library owned or non-library owned personal vehicles on a regular basis on behalf of library business.
- Supervisory experience (preferred).
- ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS (preferred).

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. Periodic offsite travel required within the county via a personal vehicle. Evening/Weekend hours are/may be part of regular schedule.
BCI/FBI Criminal Background Record Clearance and MVR history are required.
A drug screen is to be completed before the start date.
Salary : $54,546 - $76,417
