Pooled Position: ELL Teacher

ELL Teacher

The ELL Teacher is responsible for executing on the mission by ensuring that all students improve academically and demonstrate our core values. They will provide high-quality, data-driven instruction and instructional support to our English Language Learners. They are responsible for collaborating with teachers to ensure all students get the accommodations and modifications needed to master the standards.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with teachers to accommodate student materials to ensure they are appropriate for ELL students;
• Analyzing assessment data (formative, summative, interim) to refine lesson and unit plans, to provide support to struggling students, and to adjust flexible groupings;
• Supporting students in mastering state standards, including providing targeted interventions and remediation when necessary;
• Supporting teachers on differentiation and support for ELL students;
• Modeling techniques in the classroom;
• Working with small groups of students both inside and outside the classroom during independent work time to build vocabulary, re-teach, and support their mastery of the standards;
• Working one on one with students during independent work to support them with mastery;
• Sharing feedback with teachers to ensure the success of ELL students;
• Submit weekly lesson plans one week in advance for feedback;
• Implement formal and informal assessments to track each individual student’s progress and learning needs, adjust lesson plans accordingly and update gradebook weekly;
• Communicate students’ progress with student and family on a weekly basis;
• Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage work related tasks;
• Implement our school wide behavior system, routines and procedures and utilize our tracking system;
• Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on respect for the communities in which they identify;
• Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs;
• Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before and after-school duties, and school wide meetings and functions;
• Engage in summer and year-long district, school and personal learning and development;
• Minimum of 40 hours spent at school per week;
• Additional responsibilities may include: after-school tutoring or Saturday school and are based on the needs of our students

Qualifications

• ESL TX Teaching Certification Required
• Bilingual Preferred
• Bachelor’s degree or higher required
• A minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred, but not required
• A commitment to working with underserved, urban youth
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff
• Open to feedback, desire to continue development as a professional and willingness to take responsibility for student outcomes and achievement
