What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAREGIVER position at Tohono O'odham Nursing Care Authority?
GENERAL PURPOSE: Caregivers are responsible for ensuring the safety and overall wellbeing of elderly or a disabled person under our care; And assist with activities of daily living for those who may have difficulty. Ensure all areas of home life are addressed on a daily basis such as cleaning, meals, medications, activities, laundry, etc. Provide meaningful companionship. In addition to maintain all required documentation, and rules and regulations set by the State of Arizona.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: In addition to performing Essential Functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based upon the requirements of the organization
- Maintain all necessary and required documentation.
- Assist resident when to take medications and document appropriately.
- Assist daily with dressing, grooming and bathing as needed
- Record daily care notes, ADLs, etc.
- Make note of any significant changes in the Resident and inform AL Manager.
- Transport or escort to medical appointments or planned community outings; provide support as needed while at appointment.
- Run errands (pick up prescriptions; drop off items for Doctor, etc.) as needed.
- Maintain standard procedures for receiving, storage, preparation, cooking and serving.
- Prepare and plan meals; including setting up for meals and clean-up.
- Sanitarily cleans and maintains equipment and overall kitchen.
- Assist with grocery shopping as needed.
- Facilitate and assist with regular laundry and linen changes.
- Complete and maintain daily housekeeping duties.
- Facilitate and engage in regular daily activities, planned and unplanned.
- Provide companionship.
- Provide mental and physical exercises; assist with walking as needed.
- Provide input and assist with the planning of monthly and daily activities.
- At all times, and in the absence of manager, monitor any traffic in and out of the building for the safety of the residents.
- All staff are always required to follow all safety regulations and precautions.
- Staff must ensure that their Department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are maintained and/or put away when not in use.
- Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to immediate supervisor/manager.
- Report all accidents/incidents to immediate supervisor/manager within 24hrs.
- All staff must wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and or blood/body fluids or when doing hazardous work i.e. working with chemicals, electrical or day to day maintenance repairs.
- All Staff will become educated and be provided support in use of Person-Centered Care practices. These practices and learning will be ongoing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: Six months experience in providing caring for Elderly/disable individual or an equivalent combination of education and experience desired.
Licenses or Certificates: Caregiver Certification within the State of Arizona, CPR/First Aide certified, Food Handlers Card. TOEALR is willing to assist in obtaining state certification for those who genuinely display compassion, empathy and a willingness to care of vulnerable adults.
