The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) is responsible for providing safe, effective, and high-quality care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. The OR RN functions as a key member of the perioperative team, serving in circulating and/or scrub roles, and collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) is responsible for providing safe, effective, and high-quality care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. The OR RN functions as a key member of the perioperative team, serving in circulating and/or scrub roles, and collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Conducts patient assessments and verifies surgical consent, site, and preoperative preparation.
- Reviews patient history, allergies, and medication lists prior to surgery.
- Prepares the OR with necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Serves as a circulating or scrub nurse during surgical procedures.
- Maintains a sterile environment and enforces infection control standards.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgical team to ensure smooth workflow.
- Monitors patient status, including vital signs, anesthesia response, and safety.
- Performs accurate counts of sponges, instruments, and sharps.
- Assists with patient transfer to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
- Provides detailed hand-off communication to recovery nurses.
- Documents all intraoperative care and observations thoroughly in the medical record.
- Participates in continuing education and professional development.
- Maintains current knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, and best practices.
- Adheres to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Responds promptly and effectively to emergency situations.
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of GA.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- 1 year experience in an acute care OR setting.
